And just like that, Mila turned half-a-year old while we adjusted to our new home:
Age: 6 months
Weight: 14.5 pounds
Length: 26.38 inches
Sleep: still not sleeping through the night (or in a crib), mostly sleeping in OUR bed, naps during the day anywhere from 20 minutes (typical) to 1.5 hours
Eating: formula (about 70% of the time) and breastfed (30%)
Appearance: brownish-gray eyes, blondish hair, wearing 3 - 6 month clothes, two bottom teeth
Can: roll front to back and back to front, grab objects and put in her mouth, beginning to use "real" sounds (ba, ga, ma, etc), "crawling" (or scooting) backwards, reacts to other people, usually with a smile, likes dog kisses
Generally speaking, Mila is a very happy baby now. Unless she's hungry or tired, she is SMILEY! This is a pretty significant change from how she was as a newborn, since I felt like she was kinda agitated (yes, I realize that newborns don't have a huge range of emotions, but she wasn't overly happy like she can be now). She will coo, talk, and purr happily at me throughout the day. It is so sweet! She still likes to be social and around people, not just left in the bouncer or on a play mat, but given an audience, she will ham it up (she'll also smile if I whip out my phone to take a picture!).
In some ways, Mila reminds me of Ruby. She likes soft things, like stuffed animals. Ruby was and still is into her dolls and stuffed animals. She'll even take Mila's animals and play with them, claiming them as her own (we're working on that). Mila will chew on them, throw them around, and generally play with them as best she can for only being 6 months old.
In other ways, she is very much her own person. She is a little bigger than Ruby was at this age and she's hitting milestones differently. For example, she got her first TWO teeth at four months old. She's already scooting backwards and often gets frustrated because she's scooted off the blanket and can't figure out how to get back on it! She is not sitting yet, but is getting closer. At six month old, Ruby was just getting one tooth and sitting up, but not close to being mobile. This little one is going to keep me on my toes!
Oh, and the drool!! She is such a drool monster! Noa and I have a ready supply of bibs and burp clothes at the ready since she drools a lot! You'd think another tooth would pop out, but nope, just lots of drool.
She's been riding in the "big girl" stroller a lot more. Partly because we don't have our nicer, bigger stroller here yet, so we put her in the small, travel one. She does okay in it, although normally I would wait until she hit a higher weight/length since the straps aren't very snug on her.
Oh, and yes, Ruby is kinda crazy in this pic. She was very excited to have pizza that night.
Mila tolerates her sister's love and affection. Ruby really adores Mila and wakes up every morning saying "Mmmmmeeeeennnnaaa" (she can't pronounce the letter "L" yet), while running up to her. She'll then proceed to try to hug her or dance in front of her to make Mila laugh. We have to watch Ruby to make sure she isn't too rough with Mila since she thinks Mila can do all the things she can. Still, she loves having a sister and will often involve her in play, such as putting "jewelry" or accessories on her.
So proud! She's holding her own bottle. Okay, truth be told, she dropped it soon after I took this pic, but she is able to hold it part of the time. She will pretty much grab anything she can and stick it in her mouth. Nothing is safe anymore.
Finally, Mila is so tolerant with the dogs, especially Gunnar, who is my constant shadow. Both he and Mila are with me most of the day and he is always trying to lay down next to her or lick her hands or mouth (I try to stop this). She doesn't seem bothered by him and he doesn't seem too jealous of her. Not yet, at least.
Happy 6 months, Mila!
